Brief History of Professional Career Services

The company was founded by Philip Park, a Graduate Engineer from Wits University, in July 1983.

Over the years, many Consultants have been trained by Professional Career Services and in due course have gone their own way and started their own Recruitment Consultancies and have generally proved to be successful. Most of them have adopted the successful formulae developed by Professional Career Services, operating in the specialist fields of Construction, Engineering, Scientific, Health Care, Hospitality & Travel.

To that effect we are proud to have contributed to the Industry and to have been (directly and indirectly) instrumental in the development of entrepreneurs and the gainful employment of dozens if not hundreds of people by said entrepreneurs.

By February 2003, Professional Career Services was operating in the following Specialist Fields: Construction, Engineering, Scientific, Health Care, Travel & Hospitality. It had also formed 2 other companies, namely: PCS Assignments (Pty) Ltd which was formed to handle contract staff as separate from Professional Career Services which handled only permanent staff; as well as PCS Equity Solutions (Pty) Ltd, our BEE contribution.

At the end of February 2003, the then major shareholders and directors of Professional Career Services, PCS Assignments & PCS Equity Solutions, Philip Park & Richard Hancock, decided to part company in an amicable fashion. Philip Park retained Professional Career Services and Richard Hancock retained PCS Assignments & PCS Equity Solutions. All three companies then handled both permanent & contract staff.

The agreement was that for 2 years until March 05, Professional Career Services would only deal within the Construction, Hospitality & Travel Industries, whereas PCS Assignments & PCS Equity Solutions would only deal within the Engineering (disciplines other than Civil & Building), Scientific & Health Care industries.

All parties stuck to their agreement and to this date have an amicable relationship and compete in said amicable fashion. In order that none of the operating entities would suffer from the separation and in that all entities used the same Logo (the 3 arrows) which was well known, it was agreed that as long as they wanted to, said parties could continue to make use of said logo - which is still currently the case.

This may have resulted in some confusion as evidenced by some comments from some client companies & applicants/candidates. We don’t believe it is a serious matter but we thought it would be sensible to set the record straight, namely, Professional Career Services (Pty) Ltd has no ties whatsoever with PCS Assignments (Pty) Ltd, and/or PCS Equity Solutions (Equity Solutions) (Pty) Ltd.

Professional Career Services Likusasa (Pty) Ltd was founded in March 2009 to service the temporary / contract staff placements.

Professional Career Services looks forward to all four companies growing from strength to strength and providing the level of service which we have provided over the years.

Professional Career Services, now in its 26th year of operation, specifically looks forward to continue to provide an even better & superlative service to our Client Companies and Candidates/Applicants alike, as stated in our Mission Statement.
