Job Description

GM :

Looking for a confident highly motivated individual with a good command of the English language to deal with International guests. They must be highly organised with great attention to detail and the ability to co-ordinate staff for the efficient running of the reserve and lodge. They will be the focal point of contact for the daily running of the staff, lodge and reserve, therefore will have the ability to multitask, have great problem-solving skills and be practically minded.

Project management

Maintenance

Analysing month end reports

Ensuring guides are legal with First aid, PDP’s, FGASA, DEAT

Assisting with/organising reserve activities such as; game captures, camp outs, firefighting, maintenance, fence patrols, game scouts

Assisting check-ins

Hosing agents and site inspections

Allocation of staff for jobs around the reserve

Having a critical eye around the lodge and reserve

HR management (handling staff issues and understanding the labour law)

Guest complaints and queries

Assistant Lodge Manager – (Assist in daily duties below and relief for Lodge Manger when she is on leave)

  • Attend morning meetings, confirm details of staff meals, activities, wake ups, arrivals, and departures.
  • Check wake ups have been done and breakfast table is set correctly.
  • Ensure housekeepers have gone to their place of work. Check up on throughout the day.
  • Meet guests for breakfast, confirm hosted or private meals, massages, shop and outside activities.
  • Liaise with chefs about dietaries, dinner times, children’s meals. Ensure meals are on time and kitchen is running properly.
  • Keep stores and area outside office clean and tidy.

Daily duties

  • Bar stock take and replenish bar. Input into stock sheets
  • Daily walk around, write up jobs and maintenance required for afternoon or following day.
  • Room checks – Lights, hot water, drainage, cleanliness etc.
  • Admin to be done daily, inputting stock, feedback forms, shop.

Check-in and check-out

  • Read profile, make note of special requests, dietaries and know arrival and departure details.
  • Orientate guests around the lodge, advise them of activities on offer, general lodge info, safety, shop and massages. Ensure indemnity for is signed.
  • Ensure guests are given a feedback form and envelope for tips with final bill.

Orders & Deliveries

  • Ensure orders are done on time for all suppliers
  • Monthly and weekly stock take

Weekly admin duties 1/2 days a week as required.

  • Updating guest email databases
  • Compiling and updating guest profiles, including follow up with agents and guests for information.
  • Compiling and updating transfer schedule. Re-checking transfer schedule when completed by supplier and answer any queries.
Qualifications

GM :

FGASA level 1 /PH, first aid and PDP (preferred but not required).

Assistant Lodge Manager :

Relevant qualification

Skills

GM:

Minimum of 5 years management experience (preferably in a lodge/reserve environment)

Computer literate and competent in Microsoft Word and Excel.

Basic knowledge of maintenance, ie vehicle maintenance and mechanics, plumbing & electrics.

Understanding of cost analysis and accounting.

The successful candidate will need to be personable, have great interpersonal skills with the ability to manage and interact with staff. They will need to have knowledge of HR protocols and the willingness to learn all aspects of the lodge and reserve including dealing with reservations when needed. They must be able to remain calm and clear thinking in an emergency.

Assistant Lodge Manager :

At least 3 years experience in similar role.

Salary/Package
R23000 – R28000 for the couple
Benefits

Accommodation (1 bedroomed house).

Pets can be discussed at the time of interview, the owner will usually allow pets, as long as dogs are properly trained and do not chase the game.  Unfortunately children cannot be accommodated.
