Our client is an electrical contracting company, specialising in the power generation sector.
Job Description

You will be responsible for the following:

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute the commissioning of high-voltage (HV) substations ranging from 11kV to 400kV
  • Perform commissioning activities on HV substations, including switchgear, transformers, protection and control systems, and SCADA interfaces
  • Interpret design drawings, schematics, and test procedures to ensure correct installation and configuration of substation equipment.
  • Prepare detailed commissioning plans, schedules, risk assessments, and method statements
  • Conduct pre-commissioning checks, functional testing, and final commissioning of primary and secondary systems
  • Verify protection relay settings, perform secondary injection tests, and conduct end-to-end protection tests
  • Configure GOOSE between IEDs from different OEMs, diagnose and troubleshoot IEC61850-related issues/faults
  • Coordinate with project managers, construction teams, OEMs, and utility representatives
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, industry standards (IEC, IEEE, etc.), and client specifications
  • Installation supervision during equipment installation
Qualifications
  • BTech Electrical Engineering as a minimum
Skills
  • Minimum 5–10 years of experience in substation commissioning (11kV to 400kV)
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel nationally and internationally
  • Proven experience with major OEM equipment (SEL, Hitachi, GE and Siemens)
  • In-depth knowledge of primary plant (CTs, VTs, transformers, circuit breakers, isolators)
  • Strong knowledge of secondary systems, including protection relays (e.g., SEL, Siemens, Hitachi, GE), control panels, and SCADA systems, including IEC61850
  • Experience in conducting FAT/SAT and preparing ITPs and commissioning reports
  • Familiarity with testing equipment (OMICRON, Doble, Megger, etc.).
  • In-depth knowledge of protection philosophies used for protecting power lines and cables, power transformers, busbars, generators, motors and capacitor/reactor banks
  • Proven experience with IED configuration and logic diagrams with major OEM devices and equipment
  • Good knowledge of substation communication networks
  • Good understanding of the integration of IEDs into the substation automation system using IEC61850-MMS, DNP3, Modbus
