Job Description
Install control panels, marshalling kiosks, SCADA RTUs, and communication equipment in substations or control rooms.
Pull, dress, gland, terminate, and label both multicore control cables and fibre optic cables.
Read and interpret wiring diagrams, fibre layouts, termination schedules, and equipment installation drawings.
Install and terminate fibre optic cables using fusion splicing or mechanical connectors, as per project specifications.
Conduct OTDR and light source/power meter tests to verify fibre continuity and performance.
Perform control cable testing (continuity, insulation resistance) and assist in system verification prior to commissioning.
Maintain clean cable routing, accurate identification, and consistent workmanship throughout all installations.
Support the configuration and testing of network switches, patch panels, and SCADA/IED communication interfaces.
Qualifications
Technical Diploma or Trade Certification in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation, or Telecommunications.
Fibre Optic Installation & Splicing Training (e.g., FOA, BICSI, or vendor-specific).
Working at Heights, HV Awareness, or Confined Space certifications (as per site needs).
Skills
Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in the installation of control and fibre optic systems in substations or industrial environments.
Proficient in cable dressing, routing, termination, and panel wiring techniques.
Familiarity with control systems, SCADA devices, and protection relay wiring is an advantage.
Skilled in the use of OTDR, fibre cleavers, fusion splicers, and electrical test equipment.
Ability to interpret electrical and fibre layout drawings and termination schedules.
Hands-on experience with fibre optic cable handling, splicing, termination, and testing.
Good teamwork and communication skills, with a safety-first mindset.
