Job Description

To manage the effective and efficient running of the Regional Business Development Department.

To achieve and exceed revenue targets by planning, initiating, developing, and implementing sales and business development activities on a regional basis, in line with the Company’s strategy.

General

Coordinate the effective and efficient day to day running of the regional Business Development department.

Develop and implement departmental short, medium and long-term strategies with the Head of Operations (Region), in alignment with the Company’s macro strategy.

Ensure that the departmental short, medium and long term goals are achieved.

Partake in ensuring that Management goals and objectives are achieved.

Maintain and develop excellent relationships with key suppliers.

Ensure that the company Policy and Code of Conduct is promoted and practiced in the Department(s).

Discuss and implement new initiatives in conjunction with the Chief Operations Officer, and the Head of Operations (Region).

Travel nationally or internationally as required or when requested by the Chief Operations Officer.

Analyse market trends and competitor behaviour and report such information to the Chief Operations Officer.

Attend regular monthly product presentations, Finance & Administration and Operations meetings as and when required.

Ensure that the monthly management reports are documented and communicated to the Chief Operations Officer and if requested the Board of Directors timeously.

Provide the Chief Operations Officer with any ad hoc reports when requested.

Ensure that training and Human Resources needs are constantly aligned to the short, medium and long term strategies of the Company and the department.

Bring to the attention of the Head of Learning and Development any training needs of the department and be involved in the departmental recruitment process.

Participate in staff appraisals.

Ensure that the team adheres to all company’s procedures (MAPS).

Ensure that staff receives the necessary training to consistently perform their duties.

Account Management

Manage the day to day activities of the Account Management team within the Business Development department.

Allocate new business leads to the New Business (sales) Team, in conjunction with the Head of Sales (where applicable).

Manage, develop and implement effective customer retention strategies.

Maintain and develop excellent relationships with key customers based on the 80 / 20 rule i.e. pay special and personal attention to Clients that generate 80% of our revenue.

Advise the Head of Operations (Region) of any material developments with regard to existing business.

Check and sign off customer presentations as per the Authority Matrix.

Ensure that PIR’s originating from customer interactions are raised timeously.

Assist the QA Department with corrective and preventative action.

Be an active “player” in customer retention strategies.

Ensure that all client servicing and new business activity is conducted in line with the Company’s Code of Business Conduct.

Perform any ad-hoc tasks that are requested by the Chief Operations Officer.

To continuously review and improve departmental company processes in terms of efficiency, quality and effectiveness.

Identify ways to improve, automate and streamline company’s BD processes (MAPS)

Be the owner of the MAPs for the Key Accounts team.

Participate in and conduct on-going training in QMS/MAPs and other work related courses.

Have updated versions of the Key Account Development Plan in place for all top accounts and manage executions of action items.

New Business / Sales

Manage the day to day activities of the new business team within the Business Development department.

Allocate new accounts appropriately to the Account Management (sales) Team, in conjunction with the Head of Account Management (where applicable).

Manage, develop and implement effective new business strategies.

Set, compile and drive the new sales team towards sales/revenue budgets in conjunction with the Head of Operations (Region).

Ensure that such budgets are achieved.

Advise the Head of Operations (Region) of any material developments with regard to new business.

Assist the New Business Officers with presentations as and when required.

Ensure that the e-commerce solutions and products are effectively promoted.

Constantly develop and improve customer presentations.

Check and sign presentations in accordance with company procedures.

Be an active “player” in new business strategies.

Normal office / shift hours apply, but the role may require some after-hour work at times, due to operational requirements

Attend meetings/functions and any other events as required. After hour and weekend activities will be expected in this regard.

National and international travel will be required.

Attend all Management retreats.

 

 

Qualifications

Grade 12 Ideally also a tertiary qualification.

Skills

At least 10 years’ experience within appropriate business development department. At least 3 years of previous experience in a business development management position within the travel and tourism industry.
