Lead the design of complex mechanical systems for underground mobile mining equipment using advanced software tools such as SolidWorks or Autodesk to create 3D layouts, drawings and schematics of parts, assemblies, and technical renderings
Create and modify mechanical designs using CAD-based tools
Identify and define testing criteria and validation methods based on industry standards
Lead design reviews and provide input for continuous improvement efforts
Guide and advise on regulatory compliance for intricate mechanical systems
Select and provide guidance on appropriate components and materials for mechanical designs
Optimize designs for performance, cost, and manufacturability
Prepare comprehensive technical documentation, reports, and presentations
Providing continuous support to the production team during the assembly phase of capital equipment builds
Provide support to the aftermarket factory team, customer or distributor for commissioning, field troubleshooting needs at customer or distributor sites as required
Qualifications
BSc/BEng/BTech Mechanical Engineering
Skills
5+ years of experience in a similar role
Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS, MATLAB, Nastran)
Extensive experience in material selection, manufacturing processes, and cost considerations
Ability to read and interpret complex mechanical drawings and assemblies
Ability to read, interpret & modify hydraulic schematics
Ability to read, interpret & modify pneumatic schematics
Experience in system testing and validation using advanced testing equipment and techniques
Proficiency in creating comprehensive documentation including engineering calculations, FEA Reports, CFD Reports, ECN’s, etc
Salary/Package
R60,000 – R65,000 p/m CTC
