Assess the current drawing-office workflow (SolidWorks → drawings → cutting sheets → CNC programs) and identify where automated checks can be inserted without disrupting throughput
Build automated validation tools using the SolidWorks API (macros/VBA, C#, or .NET) to check dimensions, tolerances, and drawing completeness against the design brief/BOM
Evaluate and help implement third-party tools where they fit better than custom development (e.g. DriveWorks, CoLab AutoReview) — we are already in discussions with our SolidWorks reseller (MECAD Systems) and evaluating CoLab AutoReview
Design and build error-flagging checkpoints at key stages of the drawing release process, so mistakes are caught before drawings/cutting sheets reach the CNC floor
Where useful, apply computer-vision or ML techniques to compare issued drawings against source data and detect anomalies
Qualifications
Degree on Diploma
Skills
Strong working knowledge of SolidWorks, including the SolidWorks API (macros, VBA, or C#/.NET add-ins)
Demonstrated experience automating or customizing CAD workflows — e.g. auto-generating drawings/cutting sheets from rules or configurations, or building drawing-check tools
Solid grasp of engineering drawing standards, GD&T, and manufacturing documentation (cutting sheets, BOMs, CNC program handoff)
Programming ability in at least one of: Python, C#, VBA, .NET
Understanding of manufacturing/production workflows — ideally from a shopfitting, furniture, metalwork, or similar fabrication environment
Comfortable working directly with a production floor and drawing office team to diagnose real-world failure points, not just building tools in isolation
3+ years’ relevant experience (CAD automation, PLM/PDM development, or a mechanical/mechatronics engineering background with strong scripting skills
Experience with DriveWorks or another SolidWorks-native design-automation/rules engine
Experience with SolidWorks PDM
Exposure to computer-vision or machine-learning techniques applied to technical drawings or quality inspection
Background in retail fixture manufacturing, furniture manufacturing, or a similarly fast-moving, high-mix production environment
Experience implementing third-party drawing-review software (e.g. CoLab, or similar CAD QA platforms)
