Job Description

Our client is seeking an experienced Commercial Broker with extensive knowledge of short-term commercial insurance to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and growing a portfolio of commercial clients, providing expert risk advice and ensuring clients receive appropriate insurance solutions tailored to their business operations.

This role requires a highly experienced insurance professional with a strong brokerage background, excellent client relationship management skills and the ability to identify and structure suitable insurance solutions for complex commercial risks.

You will be responsible for:

  • Managing and servicing an established portfolio of commercial insurance clients.
  • Conducting comprehensive risk assessments and advising clients on appropriate insurance solutions.
  • Structuring and placing commercial insurance policies across a range of industries.
  • Providing professional advice on policy coverage, risk exposure and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Negotiating terms, premiums and policy structures with insurers to ensure optimal coverage for clients.
  • Maintaining strong relationships with underwriters, insurers and other industry stakeholders.
  • Reviewing client insurance portfolios regularly and identifying opportunities for additional coverage or improvements.
  • Preparing and presenting insurance proposals, renewal reviews and policy documentation to clients.
  • Assisting clients with claims management and claims-related queries where required.
  • Ensuring compliance with FAIS and regulatory requirements.
  • Identifying and pursuing new business opportunities within the commercial insurance market.
  • Maintaining accurate records of client interactions, policies and renewals.
Qualifications
  • Relevant qualification in Insurance, Risk Management, Finance, or Business (advantageous).
  • RE5 certification required.
  • Relevant FAIS credits / regulatory compliance required.
  • Professional insurance qualifications such as NQF Level 5 or higher in Short-Term Insurance will be advantageous.
Skills

The successful candidate will have:

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in short-term commercial insurance within a brokerage environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of commercial insurance products, including property, liability, motor fleet, engineering and business interruption cover.
  • Strong understanding of risk analysis and insurance structuring for commercial clients.
  • Proven ability to manage and grow a commercial client portfolio.
  • Excellent negotiation skills with insurers and underwriters.
  • Strong client relationship management and advisory capabilities.
  • High level of professionalism and ability to engage with business owners and senior decision-makers.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong organisational and time management abilities.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and insurance management systems.
Salary/Package
