Job Description

Our client is seeking two experienced Senior Commercial Underwriters to join their team. The successful candidates will be based at either the northern suburbs of Cape Town office or the West Rand, Gauteng office. The successful candidates will be responsible for managing and underwriting commercial risks, with a particular focus on Heavy Commercial Vehicle (HCV) insurance.

You will be responsible for:
• Underwriting and assessing new and existing commercial insurance risks.
• Specializing in the underwriting of HCV and transport-related risks.
• Evaluating risk exposure and determining appropriate terms, conditions and premiums.
• Preparing quotations and ensuring that risks are underwritten within delegated authority.
• Reviewing and managing policy renewals, amendments and endorsements.
• Maintaining strong relationships with clients, brokers and insurers.
• Providing professional advice and guidance on commercial insurance solutions.
• Monitoring portfolios and identifying potential risks and exposures.
• Ensuring compliance with underwriting guidelines, policies and regulatory requirements.
• Maintaining accurate and up-to-date underwriting records and documentation.
• Assisting with resolving underwriting and policy-related queries.
• Working closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure efficient service delivery.

Qualifications

• Short-Term Insurance NQF 5 Certificate
• RE5

Skills

The successful candidate will have:
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in Commercial Underwriting within the short-term insurance industry.
• HCV / Heavy Commercial Vehicle insurance experience is essential.
• Strong knowledge and understanding of commercial insurance products and risk assessment.
• Experience in underwriting transport and/or logistics-related risks will be highly advantageous.
• Strong understanding of policy wording, terms, conditions and exclusions.
• Excellent risk assessment and analytical skills.
• Strong negotiation and decision-making abilities.
• Excellent communication and client service skills.
• Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team.
• Strong administrative and organizational skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Salary/Package
R500,000 – R650,000 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications.
