Job Description
Interpret shop drawings, design plans, and work orders to determine exact glass measurements, dimensions, and panel types.
Use precision measuring tools, manual glass cutters, or automated cutting machinery to mark and score glass sheets cleanly to size.
Execute clean breaks along score lines and safely trim off excess material.
Smooth, grind, polish, or bevel rough glass edges using grinding wheels, belt sanders, or edge-polishing equipment to make them safe for public displays.
Inspect raw glass sheets for defects, cracks, or imperfections prior to cutting to ensure high yield and minimize material waste.
Drill holes, cut notches, or shape rounded corners to accommodate hardware, hinges, lighting, or joinery fittings.
Work alongside joiners, metalworkers, and assemblers to fit glass elements securely into cabinet frames, showcases, or partition units.
Wear mandatory Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)—such as cut-proof gloves and eye protection—and carry out routine cleaning and maintenance on cutting wheels and tools.

Matric
Skills
Min 3 years’ experience
Proficiency with hand-held glass cutters
Mastery using tape measures, calipers, and framing squares
Hands-on experience operating machinery such as glass grinding wheels, belt sanders, wet polishers, and glass drilling equipment
Ability to interpret technical shop drawings, cutting lists, and architect specifications for custom display units
Understanding the cutting techniques, structural properties, and handling requirements for different glass types (e.g., float, laminated, mirror, annealed, and acrylics).
