Job Description

The Creditors Team Leader coordinates the end-to-end accounts payable function and guides the creditors team to process supplier obligations accurately, on time and in line with approved finance controls. The role maintains reliable supplier records, resolves account queries, supports cash-flow planning and gives the Finance leadership clear visibility of upcoming and overdue liabilities.

Team Leadership and Workflow

  • Allocate and monitor daily and month-end work across the creditors team. Set clear priorities and cover arrangements, review workload and backlogs, coach team members, support performance management, and escalate capacity, conduct or capability concerns through the appropriate manager.

Invoice Processing and Verification

  • Oversee receipt, coding and capture of supplier invoices and credit notes. Check that transactions are supported by valid documentation, correctly allocated to the relevant entity, account and cost centre, and approved under current delegations. Where applicable, verify invoices against purchase orders, bookings, contracts, or service confirmations. Return incomplete or disputed items for correction before processing.

Payment Preparation and Controls

  • Coordinate payment schedules in line with approved due dates and cash-flow priorities. Review payment batches for duplicate, inaccurate, unsupported, or unusual items before submission for approval. Maintain separation between preparation and release of payments, protect banking and supplier information, and escalate urgent or exceptional payment requests for authorisation.

Supplier Accounts and Query Resolution

  • Ensure supplier statements are obtained and reconciled regularly, differences are investigated, and valid balances are addressed. Coordinate supplier query responses, resolve invoice and remittance issues promptly, and maintain professional communication with suppliers and internal requestors. Escalate unresolved disputes, service risks, and potential late-payment exposure.

Reporting, Reconciliations and Month-End

  • Maintain an accurate creditors age analysis and cash requirements view. Reconcile creditors control accounts and relevant supplier balances to the general ledger, investigate reconciling items, and support month-end cut-off, accruals, audit evidence and reporting. Submit scheduled creditor reports and exception summaries by the agreed Finance timetable.

Records, Compliance and Process Improvement

  • Maintain complete, accessible records for invoices, approvals, payment support, reconciliations, and supplier changes. Ensure supplier banking detail amendments are independently verified and approved before use. Follow company finance policies, tax and document requirements, identify control gaps, and recommend practical process improvements.
